    Raising The South
Saw this really interesting documentary about the American South, earlier on! Was presented by this comedian (perhaps Rich Hall) who grew up there and it went a great deal into all the misrepresentation of the area and its people over there.

Because of who he was, a lot of it was made with humorous observations which made lots of sense.

Learnt a lot! One of those things I didn't expect to be so enlightening, but it was.

Also put an interesting spin on how some of the original bias about the place came about. Like, for instance, how come it's an area which is renowned for letting what appears to be unintellectual stereotypes be not only made fun of, but be seen as representative? You can make up a new Larry the Cable Guy and he can be hailed as a regional hero. And it exemplifies this cultural misunderstanding between the South and the rest of the US: The South celebrates, not that a character is seen as idiotic, but as personifying that cultural sentiment of 'instinct winning over intellectual'. Like, the character's come through adversity and triumphed because he's streetwise and in spite of lacking university degrees, which is to be celebrated - whereas, everyone else, just sees it as an excuse to rip on the Southern stereotype of 'dumb hicks'.

Interesting stuff about how some of the perspective of the South shifted during the Great Depression, because of how they exemplified self-sufficient people who had made a living off the land - and knew how to make their own hooch. :)

Lots about how the uneducated and uncultured stereotype doesn't really apply when you think about it, because of the sheer numbers of not only famous musicians, but famous writers, who have come from there.

It was presented really well, though. If it had been dry, it might've been boring, but the guy was making all these points with really amusing comments. :)

"When I read it... I was convinced that Stephenie was convinced that she was Bella and... It was like it was a book that wasn't supposed to be published, like reading her - her sort of sexual fantasy about some - especially when she says that it was based on a dream and it's, like, 'Oh, then I had a dream about this really sexy guy' and she just writes this book about it and there's some things about Edward that are just so specific that... I was just convinced that this woman is mad, she's completely mad and she's in love with her own fictional creation. And I sometimes... Feel uncomfortable reading this thing and I think a lot of people feel the same way, that it's kind of voyeuristic... It creates this sick pleasure in a lot of ways."

    Quote
"There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in."
    - Leonard Cohen, 'Anthem' song lyrics.

The actual song sounds a bit too generic, but I thought that quote is really beautiful.

Returned With Nostalgic Links To Insane Journal!
    Holy shit - nostalgia!

I used to see these robots advertised everywhere, back in the eighties! Even in the old Disney comic I sued to get as a very young child!

And do you know where else I saw them?

In the 'Zoids' comic... Which someone has put the entirety of on-line, it appears!

    French Girl Shenanigans
For those who wondered, no, nothing has happened with her!

There were some opportunities for me to capitalise on with flirtation, but there's been absolutely nothing in the way of body language, tone or replies, to suggest any interest in me, beyond just friendship. So, am suspecting that's where it'll stay from now on.

Looks like I'll still be girlfriendless by my 32nd birthday, next month!

    Television Nostalgia
I found scenes from 'Space: Above and Beyond'!

The show had lots of philosophical monologues and stuff in it. So did 'Babylon 5'. Which is why I never understand why some professional writers try to make out the 'Battlestar Galactica' revival was the first science-fiction show to do it.

And now I can show how 'Battlestar Galactica' ripped it off for that 'Scar' episode it had! :D

Note how it has 'ABANDON ALL HOPE' sprayed by the ace's cockpit:

I'm not really a fan of 'Glee' (watched both the first episodes and it didn't do much for me), but the cast probably sings the best version of 'Don't Stop Believin'' I've heard, so far.

    Also!

Meeting the French girl, Aude, tonight! For she shall be at theatre group, where she couldn't do, the last time!

    Shall be watchful for stuff!

    In The Pipe
    Know what's weird?

Adoring the heck out of a film and everything possibly about it, from teenage years to the present day, then fixing yourself up to do an intereview with someone who was in it...

She didn't do anything on the big screen after appearing in it, from what I can tell, after appearing it, but I'll be doing that with the actress who portrayed the female dropship pilot in 'Aliens'.

Need to watch it through, again and think up questions!

    Observed Tea Party Shenanigans
McCain's daughter on the 'The View', apparently calling Tea Party people racist: Major loss of intellectual credibility.

Meghan, there are people of all ethnicities in it. It's nothing to do with race. It's about people getting pissed off at taxes and stuff. Although, it did amuse me, a while back, when MSNBC showed footage of one guy with an assault rifle and spoke of it as an example of "white people with guns" showing up at the rallies, when, if you run that same bit of film a bit further forward, it turned out to be a black guy. :)

Anne Coulter in an interview, shaking her head and not understanding why the Tea Party people don't just embrace Conservative ideology to the hilt and using opposition of gay marriage as an example: Similar loss of intellectual credibility.

Anne, there are people of all political spectrums in it. A lot of them either don't give a shit about gay marriage or would support it. They're not interested in socially Conservative policies. They want fiscal responsibility.

Sarah Palin making a speech, stating how the Republicans party would be foolish not to try and absorb and take notice of the Tea Party peoples' issues: Heightening of intellectual credibility.

Palin's the only one who's got it right and she's being lambasted for having a couple of crib notes written on her hand?

    Amusing... :)

Only if Tea Party folks decide to shift from an influential collective to an actual third party, will they start losing out. Their strength is coming from their very nature of being a group of completely random people with a few positive common interests leading them (primarily, a healthy dislike of big government ideals).
